Sopapillas with Honey

sopapilla

4 Cups sifted all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 cup shortening
Water
Honey (opioinal)

Sift first three ingredients together. Cut shortening in until mixture is the consistency of cornmeal. Add just enough water to hold together. Store in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes. Break dough up into four pieces. Roll out one piece until it is 1/8 inch thich. Then cut into 1 1/2 inch square and put into hot oil(shortening). Deep fry 2 or 3 minutes on each side until brown. Drain & serve. Serve with honey. You can also use lard. But I am not a big fan of lard.
